The 2013 Summer Academy will take place from June 17th to July 26th and is open to students who are enrolled in Kindergarten through 8th grade during the 2012-13 school year. Open enrollment has begun and space will be filled on a first come first served basis. Registration for our 2013 Summer Academy is now closed.

Proceeds from The 100 Gala will benefit the youth mentoring programs of The 100.  These programs focus on mentoring, education, economic empowerment and leadership development, and impact students’ personal development as well as their academic achievement. The majority of students involved in our programs display increased subject knowledge, self-esteem, personal responsibility, and motivation to succeed in school and life.

The Beautillion Militaire Scholarship Dinner is the culminating event.  This is a formal community recognition event that gives the young men an opportunity to showcase their musical and other creative talents, drill precision, as well as their educational, community service and athletic achievements.  The young men dressed in formal wear and top hats demonstrated the courtesy, good manners, graceful carriage, and respect for others that are hallmarks of a gentleman.

Maintaining good grades is an absolute necessity.  During the Beautillion Militaire Scholarship Dinner, each beau receives a share of the scholarship and book monies raised through corporate grants and donations.  Beautillion Militaire Scholarship Dinner ticket sales also contribute to more scholarship money for the beaus.  The title “Mr. Beautillion Militaire” is presented to the young man who accumulates the most overall academic achievement, service, fundraising and program participation points.  Finally, the Beautillion Militaire Scholarship Dinner highlights the young men going through a Rites of Passage ceremony that symbolically inducts them into manhood.  Parents always look especially proud as their sons receive the community’s special recognition for their outstanding accomplishments.

The 100 Black Men of Indianapolis, Inc held their 2012 An Elegant Evening with The 100 Gala & Awards Dinner at the JW Marriott in Downtown Indianapolis. Hundreds of Friends and Supporters joined The 100 member’s for an evening of fine dining, dancing, and casino gaming as the organization recognized Senator Richard Lugar, Indiana Fever Star Tamika Catchings, Retired IU Health Exec. Sam Odle, and 100 Members Wallace Martin and John Hicks for their contributions and service to the Greater Indianapolis Community. Musical entertainment for the evening was provided by local Jazz Fusion band Kools Bazaar.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

Engage Central Indiana high school students in the field of finance through a weekend financial literacy education program.  Through a combination of education and financial incentives, the students will learn personal finance and investment basics via intensive weekend seminar series from October to March.

AWARDS

Awards will be given to students who complete the course. Amounts will be based on final competition scores, quiz scores, the level of classroom participation, student attendance, available funds and the number of participating students. In past years, students have received from $250 to $3,000 payable to any accredited higher education institution upon proof of enrollment. The top students will have an opportunity to represent Indianapolis in the 100 Black Men of America’s National Financial Literacy Competition.

PROGRAM FORMAT

Students participate in 18 weeks on Saturday mornings of coursework covering various topics of financial literacy. The content is derived from three sources: FEFE (Family Economics and Financial Education) teaching modules, which were designed in conjunction with The University of Arizona; Better Investment, Inc. and original content developed by Dr. Matthew Will of the University of Indianapolis. The material is designed to introduce students to topics that are challenging, yet reachable.  Committed students will be rewarded for their effort, become knowledgeable in personal finance and investments and develop a desire to pursue these topics in a higher educational environment.
